During my trip, a number of things came to my attention. Firstly - the train left EXACTLY ON TIME!!! People used to travelling on the metropolitan system will know that this is becoming somewhat of a novelty. Secondly - the train was CLEAN!!! Again, a novelty of sorts. Thirdly - the train was monitored by a jovial conductor who went out of his way to greet everyone and answer any queries - CUSTOMER SERVICE WIN!!!
Best of all - the purchase of a Vline ticket permits you to travel on all Metropolitan Zone 1 & 2 train, tram and bus services when you arrive in Melbourne. So when I stepped off the train at Southern Cross Station I was able to jump on the next train heading to Richmond (my final destination for the night) without shelling out another cent!!!
All in all, my return trip to Melbourne cost a little over $20. Compared to driving costs such as fuel, parking and stress, I think I'll be taking the train much more regularly from now on (added bonus...I could have a few drinks and not worry about it :))
Check out the Vline website if you are thinking of travelling anywhere in country Victoria - I'm sure you'll find that your exploring dollars go a lot further than you'd expect!
Until next time,
