To Sarah and I however, this peg could be the start of something big (I can hear you questioning that already...but keep reading).
During my birthday celebrations, a close friend mentioned that my blog, as yet, had not included very much in the way of 'Selling' as opposed to 'Travelling'. He wanted to hear stories about all of the random things we had sold to fund our lifestyle of travel. I told him that we had only just put our house on the market, and I hadn't really sold anything yet. The conversation continued, until I finally agreed to sell something random on eBay - here's where the peg comes in.
I don't know why I chose a peg...I don't know why he agreed it was a good idea...but for a laugh I posted a 'Random Green Peg' on eBay, with a reserve price of 99 cents, thinking that it would not sell.
Of course, my friend bid 99 cents almost instantly. However, to my surprise, some other friends and family jumped on board too. As of 8/2/2013, my simple, plastic, everyday green peg has reached $10.50 on eBay, and with 4 more days in the bidding process to go, who knows what heights it will reach. (It's available until the 12/2/2013 - if your interested, just follow this link).
Regardless of the final value of the peg, the entire process started an idea forming in my head. We need to think outside the box when we sell our stuff. People want a good deal, of course, but people prefer to pay for a great story! And what a story - a PEG is the start to our travel fund - inconceivable but true!!!
I love the concept of selling random things to people, so keep an eye out for even more items to follow on from the random green peg.
As for the little green peg, I can't wait to see who buys it. Hopefully I will be able to hand deliver it and get a happy snap or two :)
I'll keep you all informed. And until the 12th Feb, keep the bids coming!!
